DIY Makeup Organizer Ideas

DIY, Do It Yourself! If you enjoy crafts, or are just feeling creative today, take yourself to the nearest craft store and browse the aisle for some cute knickknacks to put together a custom piece for yourself. Wake up the inner child and create. Don’t think too hard about it, just go for it. Watch your ideas become reality and absorb that great feeling of joy and accomplishment when the project is completed. When you look at your finished product, you will see there is no greater feeling.

I think these would be great gift ideas! My girlfriends and I freaking love our makeup. Setting up and organizing our vanity is so much fun. You can try out all sorts of different ways to decorate these. I mostly searched through pins on Pinterest and videos on Youtube. I will definitely add the links to the pins or videos so you can see them as well. So, without further ado, here are my top 5 favorite, easy DIY makeup organizer ideas.

“Grab-and-go” Fish Bowl

  • 1 clear fishbowl
  • Any vase fillers such as beads, crystals, or marbles

What to do:

  1. Set the fishbowl on a flat surface
  2. Poor in the vase fillers to about half-way, until the bowl is half full
  3. Stick anything you want into the bowl
  4. Place this piece de resistance on top of your main vanity area

This is a really fun and easy craft project. You can watch a video below for some extra visual instructions and ideas. I found some really cute vase filler stones and crystals.

The Magnetic Pizza Pan – Easily Access the Essentials

  • 1 glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Pizza Pan
  • Spray Paint
  • A few flat circle shaped magnets

What to do:

  1. Spray the pizza pan with the spray paint
  2. Grab your favorite every day essential makeup products
  3. Apply the hot glue to the back of your makeup products
  4. Place the magnets onto the products where the glue was applied
  5. Stick the products onto the dried pizza pan
  6. Hang the transformed pizza pan on any wall
  7. Admire your favorite daily essentials

This magnetic pizza pan idea is genius, in my opinion. I like that all my essentials are nicely displayed and easily accessible. This is a real time saver for that getting-ready-in-the-morning routine. Give this one a try and you will be thanking yourself each time you use it.

Candy Jars – Super Cute Triangular Formation of Jars

  • 1 glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • 6 empty, cleaned candle jars

What to do:

  1. Line the jars up in a triangle formation to identify where to apply the glue
  2. Apply the hot glue to the sides of the jars to have them stick in the triangle formation
  3. Glue the jars together
  4. Put any eyeliners, mascaras, any other tuby products in the jars

These jars will fit in a drawer or on top of desk or counter space. The shape and size of the jars is important. Candle jars are also a great choice for this organizing option. It is super simple to put together. It looks pretty as it is, but some little decorations can certainly be added if you like it.

“Lazy Susan” Spinning Pans

  • 2 non-stick round cake pans
  • Small round marbles, 1-2lbs bag

What to do:

  1. Place the marbles in one of the cake pans
  2. Set the 2nd pan on top of the marbles
  3. Place products in the top pan

This will literally take you like 2 minutes to put together.

I really liked this idea which I found on the video below. The spinning functionality is very nifty.

I feel like decorating the outside of the bottom pan would add a nice touch. I’m thinking some stones, pearls, or crystals.

For this one, you will want to make sure the marbles you decide to use are not larger than 1-inch in diameter.

Snack Boxes and Toilet Paper Rolls – Wrap and Re purpose!

  • 1 glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • 1 small or medium empty snack box
  • 1 larger empty snack box
  • 2-4 toilet paper rolls (depending on the small or medium snack box size)
  • A few sheets of craft paper
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors or a mini box cutter
  • paper clips

What to do:

  1. Start by cutting the top of the 2 snack boxes off so that they are open
  2. Cut the small/medium box to about 4-inches in height
  3. Cut the larger box to about 6-inches in height
  4. Apply several strips of double-sided tape on the inside and outside if the boxes
  5. Cut craft paper in pieces to match the size of each side of the boxes
  6. Stick each piece of craft paper onto the outsides and inside of the boxes
  7. Cut some more pieces of craft paper to roll into a tube shape, or wrap the toilet paper rolls
  8. Place the tubes in the smaller box

and voila!

It feels good to do good. This is especially true when it comes to the environment. I think this idea is awesome because it is really fun to put together, and knowing that this is also helping save the environment we live in. You can really get creative.

So, this does look like more supplies than the other ideas in this list, but I believe this DIY idea is worth trying out.

The height listed for the snack boxes is just a suggestion. The smaller box works well if cut to about 4-inches tall, the larger box is ideally going to be about 2 inches taller than the smaller box. Also, picking out different colors of craft paper is a great way to add originality to this.

I found this idea on Youtube.

Where to Buy Supplies

I got all the supplies for these super cute organizers on Amazon. I like getting everything in one package, I just find it easier. Although, you can definitely find everything you need at Target, Dollar Tree, or even Marshalls, or TJ Maxx.

I will make a post on some of these with a theme decoration. I found so many cute filler stones and crystals I want to crazy with. Please let me know if you have tried any of these, or if you would like to see more DIY makeup storage ideas. Explore and let your creative mind and soul guide you.

Thank you very much for reading my thoughts today.

Hi Olympia. I’m sick of my girlfriend’s makeup taking up so much space so am looking for ideas about how to ‘help’ her get it organized. I really like the fishbowl idea, so I’m going to buy her a fishbowl and some vase fillers for Christmas. I think it will be fun watching her while she tries to figure out what they are for. I’m sure she will be happy when I show her where all of her random makeup is going to live from then on.
    Many thanks for sharing.

Hello Andrew! I definitely understand the little “makeup takeover” situation. You are too funny. That’s great that you got her the fishbowl! It’s a super cute idea. I recommend smooth surface stones. If you need any help let me know.
